Daytona Beach

Tuesday August 31, 2010

As part of the NBC Standup For Diversity initiative one of the perks is the opportunity to perform at various colleges as a result of showcasing at NACA.  NACA stands for something but I do not care enough to google it right now.  I’m placing that burden on you the reader.  In short, NACA is an event where student activities coordinators from across the country convene to book their talent for the year.  This past weekend I flew out to Daytona Beach, FL to perform at Embry-Riddle University with fellow NBC Diversity Alumn Kevin Shea...

New Faces

Tuesday July 13, 2010

Jeez, I can finally spill the beans now.  I will be performing in the 2010 Just For Laughs New Faces Showcase in Montreal.  You don’t know how long I’ve had to bottle this up folks.   Sorry to all the people I’ve lied to in the LA comedy scene the past few weeks.  The festival threatened to kill my family if word got out.  I was skeptical until they handed me a phone where I heard my dad scream, “They mean business!” before getting punched in the face...

Domino's Short

Friday April 23, 2010

So this new Domino’s short I’ve done has made some waves but what people don’t know is the amount of work that went into this.  I’ve heard two people on separate occasions, in all seriousness, say to me, “How did you superimpose your face over Ed Norton’s body?”  Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence.  This whole journey started about a month and a half ago.  My friend, comic, and director of the Domino’s short, Aristotle Athiras and I were sitting at a diner when I told him my idea of the Domino’s sketch.  He thought it was hysterical and said, “What if you really bulked up for this?  I could train you?”  I thought about it and the novelty of dramatically changing my body for a youtube video made it all the more hilarious.   It was a deal...

RUSSELL SIMMONS PRESENTS STANDUP AT THE EL REY

Wednesday April 14, 2010

So I taped what will be my very first standup appearance on national television.  The show: Russell Simmons Presents Standup at The El Rey.  It's a mouthful and will air on Comedy Central in June from what I hear.   Doing standup on TV has been a dream of mine since I first started.  I've had some TV success this past year with my guest starring role on Chuck and becoming a cast member on Disaster Date but recognition for what I entered the game as (standup comic) had eluded me...

Boston

Thursday February 11, 2010

So I have a 7:30am flight to Boston tomorrow morning for the NACA National Convention Showcase.  Or in layman's terms (words for stupid people), a showcase to potentially book college gigs across the country.  Hope ya like me college kids forced to listen to my comedy over the weekend!  I've never been to the east coast before so i'm looking forward to finally being able to justify generalizing east coast people as a whole off of one visit.  I bought a scarf and beenie for the excursion from Target.  I spare no expense.  Not really feeling the beenie so the tag wil remain on lest the elements prove to be unbearable and I cave.  We will see.  I guarantee scarfage though.

If you find yourself near the Hynes Convention Center over the weekend, look out for me.  Gigs are listed in my calendar section.

It aired!

Tuesday February 2, 2010

Aliens will be picking up the show's broadcast some years later and LOVING it I’m sure.  I always perform well in the alien demo.  I have no data to support this but assume it to be true.  I flew back home to Seattle to watch the 'ol TV debut with the family.  Count on my dad to answer a call regarding his craigslist rental unit in the first 5 minutes.  My goal is to become "unplug the phone while watching my son on TV famous."  Hopefully with time that will come.  I was a little nervous to see what the response would be to the episode but it's been good so far.  Thanks unbiased friends and family!  What would I do without you?  Probably google my name and quickly become devastated.  I actually did the later and the reviews are good which makes me happy.  My only goal was to not become the Jar Jar Binks of Chuck.  I think I can breathe easy now. The support has been great ya'll.  (sorry, Britney Spears hopped on to check her facebook then wrote that last part)

Thanks so much friends, family and Chuck fans!

Manoosh out...

Jam Packed Week

Monday December 14, 2009

Oh, where to begin?  I guess I'll start with the NBC Standup For Diversity showcase I did Tuesday at the Comedy Store.  For those not familiar, NBC holds this showcase yearly after scouring various cities for the finest not white people in the world.  I was fortunate enough to be chosen as such.  Of all the cities: Miami, Atlanta, New York, and LA, 10 were chosen for this showcase which is an honor in itself.  Ended up having a good set which is really all you can ask for.  The next day or two I ended up getting a showcase to become a regular at the Comedy Store which is HUGE.  So cool.  I've been hanging there for about a year trying to do so ever since my buddy Chris D'Elia was passed.  I guess my diversity set put me over the edge.  Did the showcase for Mitzi on tape Friday.  We'll see what happens.  Either way, it's just really cool to even be in the mix.  Sometime Mitzi comes to see the showcases herself and other times the show is taped for her to watch.  Weather has been pretty pissy here in LA for the past couple days and Friday was no exception so Mitzi opted to stay in.  Let's hope I come off hysterical on DV tape.  I eventually would like to meet Mitzi because if you know anything about standup comedy and its history, she's kind of a huge fixture.  I remember how I first decided to get into standup comedy.  SNL was my starting point.  I wondered how people got on that show.  A few google searches later, I learned performers came from either the world of standup or improv.  Standup seemed more viable for me so as I did homework on the LA scene, of course, the Comedy Store came up and that was kind of my first introduction to the club.  Kind of weird being a 17 year old kid in my parent's office reading up on this place and flash forward to now where there's the potential to be a part of club's history.  Strange...
